Freedom Week Fun at Summer Camp!
A record setting week at summer camp!
Summer campers from as far south as Georgia and as far north as Canada enjoyed a week of Freedom Week fun last week! We built our own rafts and tried to cross the lake, painted our faces red, white, and blue for Independence Day, fired off foam rockets with an air compressor, and on Independence Day, the kids democratically decided the schedule!
With a focus on freedom, no child was forced to do an activity he or she did not want to do, and it was amazing to watch summer campers challenging themselves none-the-less! We had many children learn to improve their swimming, earn canoe-patches for various accomplishments, and most importantly, learn what it means to live in a Christian community where everyone is working to demonstrate love for one another.
Another brand new feature of this year’s summer camp program is the Vanderkamp Record book! We had three official entries (and lots of unofficial ones, unfortunately not documented on camera).
During Raft Building, Molly and Hannah’s raft made it the furthest across the lake. They would have made it the whole way if not for time constraints!

The award for most sand on a camper goes to Jared – pretty self explanatory:

And one record that we are fairly sure will never be broken was by JuJu, who set the record for fewest hits in a winning game of Ga Ga. Her total? Zero hits. Zero! If you know of anyone at any summer camp who has won a game with fewer hits, JuJu has offered to challenge this person one on one!

Are you from Syracuse, Rome, Utica, or anywhere in Central New York? Still looking for a summer camp experience? Come to Vanderkamp and see what all the fuss is about!
