Uniquely Vanderkamp Program Highlights:

  • Different Theme Each Week
    • Ninja Warrior (June 30 – July 5)
      • America Ninja Warrior/Super Hero Training over Independence Day Holiday…BOOM…POW…KABLAM!!!

      • Strangest Things (July 7 – 12)
        • Loosely based on popular Netflix series, Stranger Things. No worries… you do not need to be a fan of the show to have a great time. Any “inside” jokes or references will be fully explained.
        • Schedule shifted so we sleep in and stay out late… lots of glow in the dark night games, black light party in the Upside Down, mysteries to solve, and STEM activities
        • We invite kampers to bring their bikes every week but this week it is really a “thing.” Be sure to pack your helmet–safety first!

    • Free to Be You and Me (July 14 – 19)
      • Celebration of Youth and Diversity
      • Anti-Bullying Education and Programming
        • Note: This was a very powerful and moving experience for kampers and staff last summer. Too many youth have experienced bullying or witnessed it in their schools or communities. Great opportunity to let it out… let it go… and feel empowered to deal with bullying in the future.

    • Adventures in Middle Earth (July 21 – July 26)
      • Finding God in the Lord of the Rings–This is actually a great book if you are a Christian and Tolkien fan! We explore similarities between themes of epic adventure, courage in the face of evil, the importance of friends, and the power of fellowship in the stories and the Bible.
      • EPIC Adventures, Outdoor Skills, Table-top RPG, and LARPing with lots of Drama

  • Morning Clubs (before breakfast)
    • Running
    • Biking
    • Polar Plunge
    • Gaga

  • Active and Engaging Morning Devotions, Bible Study and Worship (Vespers) daily*
  • All the Summer Kamp Activities You Would Expect: Kampfires, Archery, Swimming, Hiking, Arts & Crafts, Orienteering, Canoeing & Kayaking, Drama, Whacky Games… and more
  • Healthy and Tasty Meals and Snacks–for added fun, some are unique to the weekly theme
  • Tribes: No this is not Survivor. No voting anyone out here. This is all  fostering a sense of belonging and community while forming deeper and lasting friendships.
  • Kamp-Out/Cook-Out: Taking summer camp to the next level and fostering a love for camping and spending time in nature, tribes bond over a night of tent camping and cooking their dinner and breakfast in the great outdoors! Ok, so tents are pitched on the athletic field next to the bath house with flush toilets and hot showers… but for many Vanderkamper’s this is their first time camping. A pretty sweet camping experience!
  • Vanderkamp’s Amazing Evening All-Kamp Games & Events: Always EPIC, always active, always engaging, always FUN, and always DRAMATIC.
  • Family BBQ: Family members are welcome to join us for a picnic at the lake (weather permitting) with good food, lawn games, and great people!
  • Registration Changes
    • NEW for 2019: No physical required for ANY kamp program including Sleep-Over Kamps
    • NEW Forms to be completed during online registration in Campwise provide Counselors with more information to better care for your child.

  • Transportation Assistance:
    • NEW for 2019: We will work with you to arrange transportation for your child/ren. This applies to Day Kamp and Sleep-Over Kamp Programs.
    • We recognize that in addition to the cost of kamper registration fees, transportation can be a barrier for kampers and their families. We will do our best to ensure every child/youth who wants to attend a Vanderkamp summer program is able to do so.
    • You will be asked about the need for transportation assistance or whether you can help transport another kamper during the online registration process.
    • Depending upon demand in your area, possible options are:
      • Putting you in touch with another kamper family so you can make carpool arrangements.
      • Working with our member churches from across Central New York to arrange passenger van transportation and volunteer drivers.
      • If there is significant demand, Vanderkamp may rent a school bus (short or regular) to provide transportation to and from kamp.
      • There may be a nominal fee for transportation depending upon the arrangements made to cover the costs for fuel, rental, and/or driver. We will let you know before you commit.
      • If your kamper cannot attend without transportation, please do not pay the required deposit or make any additional payments until we can confirm transportation arrangements for your child.
