Equestrian Offerings – the Stable Club at Summer Camp

Equestrian Summer Camp Offerings

Our neighbors, North Riding, one of the top stables near Syracuse, NY, have produced back to back 1st place equitation riders in both Senior horse and Pony divisions at the NYS 4H Finals. They are happy to offer their training facility to Vanderkamp summer campers at rates that blow away the competition! Since we don’t need to travel, we can afford to offer you a top of the line stable at costs below anywhere else. First timer? State champion? We have a program designed to meet your needs, so check out the details below!! Check the box for “Stable club” on the regular registration form, or Sign up today!

Beginner – Offered every week: This is a week filled with hands on activities for the horse lover who has always wanted to ride. Summer campers will learn how to care for a horse, and of course learn how to ride!  Campers will learn how to groom, brush, bathe, and all of the basics of caring for a horse. They will learn breeds, parts, and different disciplines and tack. This is the equestrian’s 101. Each week day summer campers will have an hour of ground work full of activities around the horse and then an hour on the horse! Each day will be a group lesson but mixed with fun camp games. Do you like to paint? One day during the week campers get to paint their horses. We use this exercise to review the parts of the horse and where different tack is placed. And it doesn’t stop there, at the end of the week campers will get to prepare and participate in a mock horse show!

Intermediate – Offered 7/8-7/14 and 7/29-8/4: This week is geared for riders that have ridden before and want to learn more! Summer campers who sign up for this program should be confident walking, trotting and could perform circles and patterns at the trot. Riders throughout this week will work on both their equitation and overall horsemanship. Riders will learn numerous exercises that will improve their riding and communication with the horse. This week will offer an intermediate level of horse care and health but in a fun and engaging way. Do you want to perfect that sitting trot? Fix those heels? Have a stronger base? Learn all about what it takes to canter and jump? This is the week for you! Riders will also be responsible for preparing their horse for a horse show at the end of the week much like the beginner week however this group will be introduced to what an “A” rated show would be like. They will learn how to groom to perfection and learn all about the classes that are held in the hunter/jumper world!

Advanced – Offered 7/22-7/28 and 8/5-8/11: Have you mastered the walk, trot, canter and want to learn how to jump? This is the week for you! This week will focus on horsemanship and your equitation. We will focus on improving your communication with your horse both on the ground and while riding. Riders in this week will have a chance to train with Tracy Percival Forman who is an “A” rated level trainer and the coach of the Interscholastic Equestrian Team.  Tracy has been training riders at the “A” rated level for over 20 years. Her riders have qualified and placed at nationally recognized USEF competitions, including the National American League Pennsylvania horse show and Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Finals. This week will be filled with intense riding and an advanced level of horsemanship. If you have worked hard and have completed numerous weeks of camp and/or take riding lessons regularly this is the week for you!
